In Craps the Horn Bet is a combination of Single Roll Bets – a bet is placed on the 2, 3, 11, and 12. The Horn bet’s popularity stems from the fact that the payoffs for these single roll bets are very high – 2 and 12 pay 30:1, 3 and 11 pay 15:1. The standard Horn bet places an equal wager on each of the four numbers making this more convenient then making four individual single roll bets. 
Horn Bet
The Horn bet must be made in multiples of $4 – generally $1 is bet on the 2, 3, 11, and 12. If the shooter throws any of these numbers you win the single roll bet payout, minus the remainder. For example, if you bet a $4 horn bet and the shooter rolls a 12 you win 30:1 on the 12, but lose the 2, 3, 11 bet of $1 each. Your net payout is $30 – $3 = $27.
Horn High Bet
The High Horn bet must be made in multiples of $5 – you choose one number that is your high number and you bet $2 on that number, and $1 on the remaining three numbers. For example, if you bet a Horn High 12 of $10, $2 is bet on 2, 3, and 11 and $4 is bet on 12.
Should you use the Horn Bet?
In general it is recommended NOT to use Horn Bet. As explained in our Craps Rules, single roll bets are the worst bets you can make – bets made on a 3 or 11 carry a house edge of 11.11%; bets made on 2 or 12 carry a house edge of 13.89%. The Horn bet does nothing to reduce the intrinsic house edge of these bets – it only provides a more convenient way to make four different single roll bets together.
Craps is a game of luck and many players do indeed play by intuition, making the Horn Bet a convenience. At the end of the day however, Craps should be played with an optimal Craps strategy, and single roll bets are the single worst Craps bet you can make.
